Inktober 52 - 2021 27

Well, that Soar prompt from a few weeks ago comes to bite me now, doesn't it? Having just drawn a bird, I'm now prompted to draw another bird. I'm not going to draw the same sort of bird, this time around. I'm never so sure about the detailed anatomy of birds, probably because I rarely see them up close, so it's going to be a search for references once again. I also don't know too many kinds of birds off the top of my head - which occasionally becomes a problem if you know my device naming habits - so I picked something with an uncomplicated pattern and anatomy. As long as it lends itself to a good framing I'm going to be happy with this week's result.

I ended up settling on a cockatiel motif, since they're generally uncomplicated anatomically and look fun. To me, anyway. They can be constructed pretty easily, and I'll have to start looking at references mainly for the beak construction and maybe a pattern that may or may not be there.

The pencil sketch was done pretty quickly, considering how this fills the page. That's mainly since the bird is maybe the tiniest bit pudgy anyway, so I had little trouble framing it in a way that leaves little empty space. There did turn out to be some sort of pattern that looks to me like feathers, so I'm going to just hint at those with these half-moon shaped things running down the body.

The wing could probably use some sort of pattern as well. I haven't really seen ones that would be well visible from this angle. The framing very sneakily crops out the place where the usual pattern would bisect the wings. This was a really quick and low-effort piece in comparison to some of the past ones. Since I'm holding off on buying a new marker, I'm going to try and at least improve specific aspects I've already touched upon.

There once was a bird in Australia

that lived next to a Koala.

They bickered all day

and in their own way

composed a beautiful aria.
