Inktober 52 - 2021 32
This seems like another fan-art prompt, mainly because I don't have any strong faith-based associations with the concept. It's a fine enough idea, I suppose, but I thought that angels are also very under-represented in the media I engage in. Angels in America comes to mine, but terrifying Meryl Streep seems like a difficult thing do put on paper, so I cycled through whatever tangentially related stuff I could find. I could have gone with the Arknights' Sankta, but their designs don't speak to me very much, unfortunately, and I don't really understand the Blue Archive lore to qualify turning to that franchise. I've read a few manga featuring angels, but most of them were kinda bad... So I've cheated and turned to a good manga that will probably get a good anime adaptation in the near future: Chainsaw Man.
I'm going for the Angel Devil, one of the more prominent side characters in the manga, and one with a pretty interesting dynamics, honestly. There's a number of fun features in the characters, namely the sharp suit and the interplay of a neutral expression along with whatever pose I feel is appropriate. I didn't check how these pictures come out under natural light, so this one's kinda blue...
Similar to the Ink prompt, the inking process is going to be a little more on the strategic side.
While inking the suit, I had to look up the Angel-Devil's gender on the Chainsaw Man wiki to decide what to do with the torso in general. I do actually quite like the angle the torso ended up in here, because it showcases the figure, but that meant I had to decide on some details. They've always seemed pretty androgynous in the manga and weren't coded any particular way (lazying around is unisex), but the wiki told me they were a guy, so I had to give him a slightly more rectangular frame, hence the double-line towards the lower back.
No marker this week - I'm not home strictly speaking - so what would have ordinarily been black is pencil-shaded. It's been a while since I've pencil-shaded anything, and I'm kinda surprised at how quick it is. It's not as conclusive as the marker though, and I think I might at least do the dark area on the left side with marker, if the opportunity comes up. It might look pretty good.
White wings floating high like clouds,
feathers settling on the golden rye,
the floating, and almost translucent white shrouds
just in the corner of the eye.
