Art Practice - 2023 10
I must admit I changed my process a bit. I did a series of sketches in a row and saved the ink for afterwards. Maybe it's because I take a tad longer to get into the headspace of coming up with concepts now that it's not as easy to find prompts as it's used to be. I'd rather get composition done when it's not a difficult thing yet. However, if I do the inks much later, I'll forget where I got the prompts. As I did here. Intense Stare seemed so very up my alley that I had little trouble doing the sketch.
From pencil to ink, with only two or three weeks in between. We've had more consistent lettering, but then again this isn't exactly meant to be anything that requires very precise lettering. So close up, figure drawing doesn't really matter. Having the image bisected by the screen makes things easier as well, and I like how it splits the image.
Outlines are a bit messy around the finger, since I forgot about the fingernails before I started inking. It changes things slightly, but not necessarily in a way that would be incoherent. I've also noticed that placing a nose is more difficult than I thought. I decided to omit that detail.
That marker is going odd on me again. I'm not going to replace it quite yet though, it still gives me enough juice to reliably fill a page, even if it leaves marks. Just means I'll have to be a little more strategic about the areas I use it for.
Don't look back
over your shoulder,
even if you feel the chill.
The clickity-clack
of fingers and colder
sickly-sweet words keep you still.
